When King Olly becomes a Vellumental, alongside eyes, a three-pointed crown, and a large flap of hair like Olly's, the majority of their skin turns purple. When Olivia transforms into a Vellumental, it gains eyes and a two-pointed crown on its head. In their original origami forms, the Vellumentals have no eyes. King Olly also possesses the ability to turn into each of the Vellumentals in the first stage of his boss fight. However, the Magic Circle disappears from the enemy if Mario fails to solve the ring puzzle. Each Vellumental will also become available for a timed refight using a Bossotronic Fighter in Toad Town's Battle Lab.ĭuring certain Wave Battles, an enemy may hold a random Vellumental Magic Circle, which if defeated will allow Olivia to transform into that Vellumental and attack all enemies with 50 damage in the next turn, or the next wave if all enemies in the current wave are defeated. This allows Olivia to transform into one via a corresponding Magic Circle, allowing Mario to access its elemental powers.

When each Vellumental is defeated, it unveils a Bibliofold that contains instructions on how to fold into them. Certain in-game text suggests that they were not always made of origami. Their shared name is a portmanteau on "elemental", and " vellum", a type of parchment specifically made of calfskin (alluding to the ancient nature of the Vellumentals). Once he weakens the Stapler enough, Mario can perform the 1,000 Fold-Arms technique to destroy the Stapler by splitting its mouth wide enough to break. The Stapler starts out with regular gray staples, making it deal mediocre damage, before shifting to red and later gold as it loses a third of its health, each dealing more damage than before. Stapler can also charge an attack that makes it rapidly bite Mario, or shoot all of its remaining staples at him if further away, although it leaves it vulnerable for an extra turn as the monster needs to refill its staples. If not blocked, Mario is pinned down for an extra turn. The Stapler attacks Mario using its staples, biting him twice to the ground. Near the end of the game when Mario and his friends raid the Origami Castle in their quest to confront and stop Olly, he calls upon the Stapler to deal with them in the room before his throne. The Stapler also stapled Bowser into his weak folded form with its bite. The Stapler is only briefly seen before its boss fight where it can be seen at the very beginning of the game turning the Koopa Troop into Folded Soldiers in the basement of Peach's Castle, stapling them so they could not unfold themselves back to normal. It and the rest of the Legion of Stationary were granted life by King Olly to serve as his minions. The Stapler was once a regular stapler used by the Origami Craftman to make his origami.
